Competition Win for Bergen Waterfront Masterplan
07.06.2021
Elliott Wood, as part of the Londonon collective, has been named joint winner of an international design competition by the city of Bergen to remasterplan its Laksevåg waterfront district.
The competition sought ‘visionary, site-specific and feasible’ concepts to restore and redevelop the former shipbuilding area which occupies a prominent city centre location overlooking the Byfjorden.
Our team's proposal, titled ‘LAX’, aims to restore and redevelop the former shipbuilding area into a creative and productive centre of maritime industry for the 21st century.
The masterplan for the renewal of the Indre Laksevåg district puts production at its core, in particular with connection to the sea - transforming a shipyard of the 20th century into a creative and productive centre of maritime industry for the 21st.
The proposed design will create a densified district of diversified fields and means of production - Electric vessel production, offshore renewable energy development, ecologically sourced seafood, all sit side by side in one neighbourhood.
The Londonon research collective, featuring representatives of Haptic Architects, Gort Scott, Morris+Company and Turner Works, is supported by Elliott Wood, VILL and Urban Systems Design.
